10-27-09 Station 11 is opened to cover the south end of the city as well as Midlego Crossings.
Engine 11 Rescue 6 and Battalion 2 are located here. Engine 11 is the only engine company that runs a
quint with a crew of 6 at all times. The reasoning for having a quint at station 11 is this station's
territory was annexed into Midlego so they would be primary at Midlego Crossings country
amusement park. It was felt that a quint would suit the needs of Midlego Crossings best and the extra
2 crew members in combination with the 2 on the ambulance would be able to meet all needs in case
of a fire until the next 2 closest engines and truck company can arrive. The rescue runs with 2 medics
and the engine runs 1 medic.
10-19-09 MCFD responded to a residential structure fire relayed by a Midlego County Sheriff
Officer who was on patrol in the area. Midlego FIREMEDIC R. PARRISH will be awarded the MIDLEGO
LIFE SAFETY AWARD for not only locating the fire victim, but also retrieving her from the second floor
of the structure and administering all life saving interventions from initial start of CPR to transfer of
care with Midlego Ambulance Service in the ER where the victim had a pulse on her own and was
being assisted respirations by BVM with intubation.
09-13-09 Engine 10 has been moved to its new home in the remodelled station 3 from 1932. The
station has been fully renovated to be used on a daily basis by the crews that run on Engine 10. The
engine will run as a 3 man unit unless staffing permits 4 personnel available. As of the first 12 minutes
of operation on its opening day the crew already answered their first fire alarm with water flow
activation, only to be a small stove fire in an apartment complex. The stations good central location
allowed the engine to be on scene in 2 and a half minutes from time of leaving quarters, and has
already proven to be a great asset to the city.
07-15-09 The hazmat truck has been drawn up only to be put on hold for the time being as a
renovation to an old station is in the works to better serve the citizens of Midlego. This was brought
up due to an influx in emergency calls to a busy section of downtown to assist the crews of engine
and truck 1 who are overwhelmed with multiple calls daily. The renovated station will be a 1 bay
station and will be the new home of ENG-10-INE. The station is also going to be 2 story and will have
the look of a mid 1930's station like what would be seen in FDNL with the brass pole included. The
station is expected to be completed by September 13, 2009 and in operation at that time. Once
completed the hazmat truck can begin its construction as it will run out of the current station 6. The
current station 10 will house nothing but a spare reserve engine to be used in time of frontline
engine failure or maintenance. Also due to economic crisis at this time Midlego FD is being forced to
cut all overtime possible which may at some times result in running minimum staffing on engine
companies. This may mean an engine will only run with one medic and for the first time ever result in
transferring care over to the private ambulance service instead of riding in on every call as they
currently do. This will not in any way compromise the safety of the public but instead save the
taxpayers some money until the economy picks up.
04-20-09 Well as you can tell I finally got my hard drive off my broken laptop and am finally able to
get back into the website again. Only thing left to do is get an expansion slot for my camera to
download pics to the computer. In department news the hazmat truck has finally made it to the
drawing board, it is being decided whether or not to order a walkin style heavy rescue vehicle with a
command post inside or a tractor trailer with a command post at the rear of the rig. Both are being
drawn up and the pro's and con's are being put into consideration.
10-05-08 Been a while since any news has been posted but not much has really happened lately in
Midlego City. The 2 biggest events have been the mutual aide response to California for the wildfires
over the summer and the purchase of Truck 4 a 2008 Brick Ridge Apparatus 100 ft platform Spectrum
Series with a 1000 gallon tank and 1500 gpm pump. This truck also shares duties as an ALS response
unit in its territory when needed.
3-01-08 The new engines have arrived and are being loaded with hose and pump testing. The
engines will then have their gear mounted as seen fit by the crews that will operate them. The Crown
is ready to go in service as soon as it has been pump tested. For some reason the crews that were
loading the hose on these trucks made this truck the highest priority as they were already on engines
that were operational and this truck is by far a department favorite even among the rookies. All units
however, will be placed in service on 3-08-08 at their dedication ceremony with the Mayor and City
Commissioners at their monthly Commission meeting.
2-20-08 The department ordered 5 new engines to replace current frontline engines. The current
engines are to be donated to local volunteer departments who were not awarded fire grants for
apparatus. The department is also receiving with these 5 engines our old 65 model Crown engine fully
restored and refurbished to be operational under new fire standards. It was decided to keep the truck
an open cab for nostalgia. The truck will be kept at Station 8 as a reserve engine. It was decided to
keep this truck since it only had 30,000 miles and never had any problems while it was in service until
1997 when the department replaced it.
